“Bohemian FC has today parted company with men’s first team manager Declan Devine: bohemianfc.com/?p=20262
The Board of Bohemian FC wish to put on record our thanks to Declan for the commitment, determination and enthusiasm he brought to the club since being appointed to the role in October 2022.”
Well, that news has happened sooner than anyone expected. Many thought Devine should have been let go at the end of last season but it is still surprising that he didn’t get any more games in after Friday’s defeat to Shelbourne. The best of luck to himself and Cronin and we wish them well. Fenlon is taking over as Interim Manager. Whether this whets his appetite for getting back into football management or not, we shall see. He has the pedigree. All the lovely money he likes to spend on players, has already been spent.
We have some decent players in our squad, really decent. We were just lacking a Manager who knew how to pick the right players for each game and set us up to battle hard and know how to defend against free kicks. Fenlon has had great success with Shelbourne and Bohs before this, so knows his business. He was not so popular when managing Derry and SRFC where he was shown the door. He has plenty of Football Management knowledge to help us turn around and, if he chooses to take the Managers job full time, could make us successful again. Who knows?
Derry will be a tough ask on Friday, no matter who was going to be in charge, so don’t expect the new Manager bounce just yet. As mentioned, we have brought in quality players. A decent manager could work wonders with many of them to turn us around quite quickly, so we have to be positive for a better display on Friday against the Candystripes.
