Our first competitive game of the season is on Monday in the Leinster Senior Cup against a Drogheda side who have been very busy in the off season, signing new players. Andrew Wogan in goal, a local Drogheda lad who is only 18/19 and played very competently when asked to do so last season. Evan Weir is back again this season, after signing with Walsall and immediately loaned back to Drogheda. Frantz Pierrot, signed from Athlone Town, has the look of a top striker, if his physique is anything to go by. Powerful looking chap. Adam Foley is still with Drogheda, a noted goal scorer who was with Drogheda last season, after joining from Finn Harps. Ryan Brennan had planned on retiring but has signed for another season. Luke Heeney has signed back with Drogheda. Conor Kane, originally on loan for the second half of last season, has signed with Drogheda. Warren Davis, signed last season from St. Joseph’s Boys, has signed a two year deal this season. Darragh Markey has signed back. I think we were looking for his signature but, as far as I know, he has a full time job, so the semi part time set up with Drogheda, suits him. They have also signed a South African International goalkeeper, Jethren Barr, who may become their number 1 keeper, ahead of a very capable Wogan. Gary Deegan is back as Club Captain in midfield. What a player. Amazingly, Drogheda managed to sign two players from Lincoln City, ON LOAN. Hayden Cann and Oisin Gallagher. I checked the Lincoln City website and these two lads are mentioned in their first team squad, so they must be useful. Drogheda had a friendly game against Longford Town this week and drew 0-0. Their starting lineup for that game is attached

Looks like we are using the u20 squad tonight according to Bohs tweet earlier I just heard that. Disgraceful that the Club left it so late to announce it. This is, potentially, a competitive fixture which would allow Devine a chance to give the players a good workout against a decent Drogheda team. How many have bought tickets online, with this in mind, and now find themselves going to United Park, for a nothing game, on a freezing night.

Game ended 3-1 to Drogheda.
Drogheda fielded a full team with first team players also on the bench. Croly’s U20’s represented our Club and fought hard throughout the game. The result was never going to be in doubt, given the circumstances.
No Devine to be seen. No first team player near the ground. Drogheda used the game as a preseason game, as we should have. Having said that, Croly has his team playing nice football from the back. He could have done a better job with the first team, than Devine, if he had taken over after Long left, instead of leaving the caretaker job to Pender. I thought Assistant Managers are meant to take the reins when a Manager leaves?

Drogheda won their second game in the Leinster Senior Cup against Dundalk in Oriel Park by 2 goals to one, all goals scored in the second half. This leaves them with a final game against Malahide to clinch this Group and proceed to the next round. Tonight’s game also gave Drogheda a chance to win the annual pre season Jim Malone Cup which is played against Dundalk every year.
Drogheda’s win also leaves a once off, winner takes all clash between Bohs U20’s and Dundalk U20’s in Oriel Park on Bank Holiday Monday next, at 5pm. This is great news for a humdinger of a clash and for the winners to proceed to the next round of the Leinster Senior Cup, as runners up in the Group. I’d say Croly’s team will edge this one but I would say that, wouldn’t I? I’ve not seen Dundalk U20’s play, so I have no idea how good they are. However, Bohs U20’s already have two Leinster Senior Cup games played, against Drogheda and Malahide and I think this experience will give them the edge on Monday.
